Seit ich selbst überzeugter iPhone- und Mac-Nutzer bin, empfehle ich Fragenden eigentlich durch die Bank weg auch Geräte von Apple. Das höchste der Gefühle ist, dass ich etwas in Richtung “Natürlich, kannst du dir auch ‘nen Windows-Laptop von Dell kaufen… Support kannst du da aber auch gleich mit einkaufen, denn ich habe auf den Scheiß keinen Bock mehr.”
Bin ich ein Apple-Fanboy? Das hängt natürlich auch etwas davon ab, wie man das definiert. 
Den Vorwurf höre ich jedenfalls häufiger…
Ich bin, behaupte und hoffe ich zumindest, genau so Apple-Fanboy wie ich THW-Kiel-Fanboy bin. Ich lasse nichts auf den THW kommen und schon mal gar nicht in Gesprächen mit Fans aus Flensburg oder Hamburg. Aber, und das werden Leute, die schon mal mit mir Handballspiele geguckt haben, ich bin ein recht objektiver Beobachter und gehöre selbst wenn ich in der Ostseehalle bin zu denen, die nicht bei jeder Schiri-Entscheidung empört aufspringen sondern ertappe mich häufig dabei, wie ich sitzen bleibe und mir ein “Na ja, da kann man schon mal Siebenmeter geben…” in den Bart brummel.
So bin ich auch bei Apple. Fast.

UPDATE: Die Vodafone-Sektion wurde aktualisert, die Tabelle um einen Vodafone-Studenten-Tarif erweitert.
Spätestens alle zwei Jahre ist es so weit: ich will weg von der Telekom, bei der mein Handyvertrag seit der Markeinführung des ersten iPhones in Deutschland läuft.
Dieses Mal bin ich mit entsprechenden Überlegungen noch früher drann als sonst – nämlich ungefähr fünf Monate bevor ich tatsächlich wechseln oder meinen Vertrag verlängern könnte. Dafür sind die Überlegungen dieses Mal um so detaillierter, da das nächste das erste iPhone sein wird, dass frei verfügbar sein wird.
Ja, ich weiß, dass das für das iPhone 4 auch jetzt schon gilt. Als ich aber meinen Telekom-Vertrag zuletzt (mit dem iPhone 4) verlängert habe, war dies noch nicht der Fall, ihr Klugscheißer!
Na ja, jedenfalls habe ich viel überlegt, noch mehr gelesen und gerechnet. Diese Überlegungen und Rechnungen stelle ich im Folgenden in tabellarischer Form der Allgemeinheit zur Verfügung; vielleicht hilft’s ja dem einen oder anderen bei seiner Entscheidungsfindung weiter.

Every couple of months I encounter the same problem: GMail stops pushing mails to my iPhone. I just ran into that problem again last night.
Rebooting the iPhone, re-setting according options to “push” and even deleting/re-adding the account(s) in question didn’t work.
What did work is:
Going to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> [Account Name] -> Mail Folders to push — and then selecting “[Gmail] All Mail”.
If you’re lucky this might work for you as well…
Keep in mind: when normal pushing starts working again, you will hear to “bings” for each mail that arrives, one for “Inbox” and one for “All Mail”. You can take that as your signal to unselect the “All Mail” folder again, and then decide wether you’d like to revert the above changes.

Watch this video, fire up Cydia on your iPhone, add http://phajas.xen.prgmr.com/repo to the repositories and install “MobileNotifier” NOW! It is even FREE!
EDIT: Keep in mind though, that this thing is still beta and some things still need fixing. Notifications aren’t shown on the locked Display anymore. You first need to either push the home button or the on/off switch to wake up the device in order to actually see the notification. If you have notifications that you didn’t read already, you won’t be able to see the time on the lock screen anymore. But I’m sure Peter Hajas will fix that soon… ish… ly…

I just thought about the iPhone 4 now being available on Verizon and all the buzz going on in the US about switching over from AT&T.
Maybe I don’t get CDMA right… but if I do: have you ever thought about, how Verizon knocks you way back to the times when we all used dial-up modems to get online?
Think back. What happened when you were surfing the web or, “worse”, downloading a file and a call came in? Right: the internet connection was dropped immediately because the incoming call had priority.
This was not a real problem if you lived alone (you could easily unplug the phone when you needed to be online), but if you were living with family, this could become a real hassle.
Now, as far as I can see, Verizon, using CDMA, knocks you back a good 10-15 years by giving you the exact same experience. Not only that you cannot and will never be able to have a phone call and check your mails or visit a website at the same time. No, if you’re downloading an App/Movie/Album or doing something else online via “3G”, an incoming call will terminate that connection immediately. There won’t even be a question “Take Call / Stay Online”, you’re not even left with a choice.
And you certainly cannot unplug the phone (App) on your iPhone as you could have done with that real landline phone back than.
I don’t really know if this is important to anyone willing to switch… it just crossed my mind and I wanted to share that thought.

Max Winde hat in seinem Blog von einer interessanten Beobachtung berichtet. So macht das iPhone per Rechtschreibkorrektur bei wiederholter Eingabe des selben Buchstabens irgendwann lustige Wörter daraus.
Sein Favorit ist das 11-malige Eintippen des Buchstabens ‘z’. Dies führt nämlich zu…. Tuttifrutti.

(Noch?) Gibt es wohl Probleme, wenn die Kontakte nicht via USB-Kabel mit dem Mac(!) oder MobileMe, sondern über ActiveSync und/oder Outlook synchronisiert werden! Also im Zweifel vorm Ausprobieren unbedingt ein Backup des Adressbuchs machen!
Inzwischen gibt es immer mehr Handyverträge, die einem eine Flatrate ins Festnetz (ohne Sonderrufnummern), sowie eine Flatrate ins hauseigene Mobilfunknetz bieten. Also zum Beispiel von T-Mobile zu T-Mobile.
Eigentlich eine feine Sache — wenn man denn wüsste, in welches Netz man telefoniert, wenn man die Handynummer eines Freundes antippt. “Früher” war das ganz einfach anhand der Vorwahl zu erkennen. Heute gibt es so viele Vorwahlen, dass man da leicht den Überblick verlieren kann. Außerdem ist es einem ja seit geraumer Zeit gestattet seine Handynummer bei einem Providerwechsel mitzunehmen. Inklusive der Vorwahl.
Hier kommt ProviderFinder ins Spiel.

Es konnte ja auch überhaupt nicht gut gehen!
Anfang November (am 5. oder 6.) habe ich meinen Mobil-Tarif bei der Telekom gewechselt. Bis dato hatte ich den “Complete 120″, seit dato habe ich den “Complete Mobil L mit Handy”. Dieser ist etwas teurer, bietet aber auch mehr.
Heute bekomme ich meine Rechnung von der Telekom. Diese ist dann auch gleich mal knapp 20€ höher als erwartet.

You, dear reader, being a total Apple fanboy, surely read about Apple cooperating with Gemalto to create a custom-made, pre-installed SIM-Cards.
All blogs (at least all blogs in which I read about this topic) seem to be certain about one thing: those must be for the iPhone.
I don’t think so. It’s too early for that step and, at least, the German carriers would go bonkers about that. They don’t know nothing about selling phones with no subsidies and, hence, not how to present their customers with plans fur such a scenario. I suspect that such a step would result in both, higher prices for the device itself AND higher monthly fees (in relation to the status quo – prices for the plans will certainly not jump, but I’d suspect the “TCO” over two years would rise).
No, I think that Apple will introduce those integrated SIM cards with one of their next MacBook/Pro/Air update. The lack of an integrated UMTS modem is something that I deeply hate Apple for, since I bought my first MacBook. There are no technical obstacles, other notebooks do come with such a modem, you know. This must be some Steve Jobs-shit about not wanting users to have to pop in/out SIM cards. Plus: that slot would have to be accessible from the OUTSIDE, since Apple doesn’t want you to take a look inside your MacBook/Pro/Air anymore. Well, of course, Apple could just kill that silly SD-Card slot for that…
I don’t say that this technology, the integrated SIM Card, won’t, eventually, arrive in the iPhone – but I do have a feeling, that we won’t see it there first.
